# 2 - Abu Lahab - Top 5 Reasons to believe the Qur'an was man-made

Let us for a moment consider the Muslim claim that the Qur'an is the uncreated word of God that has been in existence since the beginning of time and which exists in its perfection in Heaven unchanged and unchanging from the moment it sprung into being, written by the magic pen...
Then let us read the following surah
The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish. [1] His wealth and gains will not exempt him. [2] He will be plunged in flaming fire, [3] And his wife, the wood carrier, [4] Will have upon her neck a halter of palm fibre. [5] (111:1-5)

Who is this fellow who is so reviled by God that he is cursed by name in the final revelation to mankind? (Not only that, but his poor wife gets it (literally) in the neck as well...)
Abu Lahab was an uncle of Muhammad who had the temerity to question his nephew's claims to prophet-hood.
Now, of course, God knew that Uncle Lahab was going to do this because the Qur'an is "uncreated".
So ever since he was a baby, Abu Lahab's fate was to go to hell (along with his poor wife).
Do Muslims ever stop and wonder whether it might not be more reasonable to assume that the author of the Qur'an was so hacked off with his uncle pissing on his bonfire that one day he'd just had enough and decided that his god was going into bat on his behalf...
What errant nonsense it all is.
What complete bloody tosh.
Sorry - normal service will be resumed shortly...

  1. This man (Abu Lahab) used to hate Islam so much that he would go after the Prophet wherever he goes to humiliate him. If he saw the prophet talking to strangers, he used to wait till he finishes and then ask them: What did Muhammad tell you? If he said it’s white then it’s in reality black and if he said it’s night then it’s day. He meant to falsify all what the prophet says and to make people suspicious about it. And 10 years before the death of Abu Lahab, a Sura was inspired to the prophet, named “Al-Masad”. This sura tells that Abu Lahab will go to hell, in other words, it says that Abu Lahab will not convert to Islam. During 10 years, Abu Lahab could have said: “Muhammad is saying that I will not become a Muslim and that I will go to the hell fire, but I’m telling you now that I want to convert to Islam and become a Muslim. What do you think about Muhammad now? Is he saying the truth or no? Does his inspiration come from God?”. But Abu Lahab did not do that at all although he was disobeying the prophet in all matters, but not in this one. In other words, it was as if the prophet(PBUH) was giving Abu Lahab a chance to prove him wrong! But he did not do that during 10 whole years! he did not convert to Islam and did not even pretend to be a Muslim!! Throughout 10 years, he had the chance to destroy Islam in one minute! But this did not happen because those are not the words of Muhammad (PBUH) but the words of God Who knows what’s hidden and knows that Abu Lahab will not become a Muslim.

How can the prophet (PBUH) know that Abu Lahab will prove what is said in that Sura if this was not inspiration from Allah? How can he be sure throughout 10 whole years that what he has (the Qur'an) is true if he did not know that it’s inspiration from Allah?? For a person to take such a risky challenge, this has only one meaning: that this is inspiration from God.

If that's true, then Abu Lahab was one of the most intelligent and rational people Muhammad had around him. You'd do much better to follow him than Muhammad.

    2. there was another man who was named Abu Jahl. Google him and you will see that he was almost perfect in every material aspect, he was even considered intelligent by people such as you. You will see that you fit his profile down to his nickname (abu jahl = father of ignorance)

    3. Don't you see that he had the chance to prove the Qur'an wrong?
People like Abu Lahab would jump at this opportunity. But ultimately he could not.
The Prophet(PBUH) was given a responsibility and he fulfilled it. He persuaded, but never forced anyone to accept islam. This is because Faith cannot be forced on anyone. As muslims, we are obligated to make people aware, but we do not force people to believe what we do. Trying to "create awareness" on the basis of our own conjecture is what we don't do.

  2. Yes - "Kevin" tried that one when I questioned him about this surah.
My reply to you, anonymous, is the same. If Abu had converted then presumably it would have been treated as a miracle and another surah would have been revealed to the effect that God moves in mysterious ways. After all, it wouldn't have been the first time a verse had been abrogated, would it...?
As it is, we are left with a relative of Muhammad being cursed because he failed to believe that his nephew really was a prophet. All too handy, i'm afraid.

    1. Just mindless speculation and conjecture. :) It reminds me of the following:

      "But they have no knowledge
      Therein. They follow nothing
      But conjecture; and conjecture
      Avails nothing against Truth."

but he didn't.. so this sura came out. whats wrong with that? Abu did alot of mean stuff to Muhammad PBUH, and he can choose not to be an abusive asshole, so he is going to be punished for that..

if that the case, this sura is a revenge to Abu, as you said you know there will be a lot more people will be curse you know, Lots of aristocrats in Mecca that being mean to Muhammad PBUH.. Muhammad even got boycott for 3 years, where no trading can be done with him and his follower where some of them die.. ALso, if it is for revenge, the aristocrat even offer Muhammad wealth and women for exchange to stop spreading Islam.. and if he hate Abu that much, why he reject the offer? Muhammad could simply take the reward, and Abu will think twice to disturb him again, with all bodyguard and influence or maybe just use the wealth to beat the crap of Abu.. Instead Muhammad just let it go, be patient.. and believe in God..

  4. When this comes up I like to point out that Abu Lahab couldn't possibly become Muslim because that requires that he believes the Quran is from God, but the Quran effectively says he will never do so, so how could he ever believe it?

For the same reason he couldn't even convincingly pretend to become Muslim. They would say, "he doesn't really believe in the Quran because he knows it says he will never do so".

    1. i don't know how u guys fight on the truth of a religion who has already been proved true !
anyways, Quran said because it knew that he won't embrace islam as Allah knows everything !
but abu jahl was not destined to do so, he always had his will wether to accept islam or not but Allah knew that he would not and so mentioned it. :)

    2. Hi Anon, Do please inform us how the truth of Islam has "already been proved true".
(Apart from anything else, if the proof is so obvious then you don't need faith. In that case, why should you be rewarded with an eternity of shagging big-breasted 90ft tall virgins with transparent legs for simply believing something that we can all see is true. Proof denies faith. And without faith religion is nothing. And god disappears in a puff of logic ...to paraphrase the inimitable and sorely missed Douglas Adams.)

  6. You can go on with your rambling as you wish regarding the Qur'an and it miraculous aspect(S), matter of fact is, Abu Lahab and his wife never became Muslims, Abu Lahab and his ill fated "poor" wife persisted on their animosity to Islam and Muslim, Abu Lahab and his wife both died infidels, and no verses were replaced and all stayed as is, an outright clear prophecy that really, again, really, does not require rambling .

    1. when i was a muslim, I never get on with this surah but I tell when you are a muslim, it is like you are blind.
Where is the spiritual lessson to be taken from this Sura; noyhing, just a man who is pissed of of an oncle that he can not kill, made a sura to curse him
If Abou lahab was was not a relative the coran will not have mentionne him but only the Hadith becasue he would have been executed like many people who opposes the prophethodd of Mohamed

  7. if god knows everything, why should he get angry
    everything is under his control
whatever happens 2 anyone, it is thus decided by him; so if a person does a sin, why should god get angry, since it is god who decided that he would sin?

  8. Well, this owner of this website obviously does not know arab language. The wording in Quran itself could not be created by human itself and yet you are trying to judge only using the translation? Shame on you. Learn arab first and then you can judge dude.

  9. Great verse. Truly a miracle. The Quran says Abu Lahab and his wife will perish in hell. And the Quran and Islam would have crumbled had Abu Lahab or his wife accepted Islam. They never did. And so - as it was decreed in the Quran - they reside in hell not heaven.

Cheers for re-affirming my faith mate!

  14. Top 5 Reasons to believe the Qur'an was man-made. This blog did not give reason as to why it is mad made but rather just a story and things were, because of the fact he Abu Lahab was cursed? what is the reason? just some small minded persons reason. Now let me tell you something the Quran was after Abu Lahab was born. If God knew then that is Gods will we don't know that and we can't assume anything like that. This verse curses Abu Lahab and his wife forever because of the torment they caused to Mohammad. Now let us just think for a second and If you were smart enough you would realise that if Abu Lahab had accepted Islam then it would have then proved the Quran to be false. It would not change to reveal another verse saying forget the curse of Abu Lahab here is the verse for the time Abu Lahab converted. Let us just say another verse did appear, by now you should have known the Quran is fake only suiting the persons needs just as the Bible does (I mean there are so many out there I have lost count). Abu Lahab didn't accept Islam therefore is cursed forever for the torment, his acceptance would have proved the wrong. Any idiot here saying another verse would come out should know that it would be fake IF it did so don't assume anything just to prove the Quran wrong by your irrational explanation. Only say it when it did happen

  15. point of story went over your head mate...lahab could have proven quran wrong by accepting islam at any time....but he never did

  16. Abdu Lahab died after 10 years since first time Prophet Muhammad (Peach Be Upon Him) recite this Surah. This is the real miracle, this surah predicts that Abu lahab will go to hell, and Abu lahab could proof that Quran is false by embracing Islam,

  17. Dear Muslims contributing to this page, do not criticize or be rude to those who question the Quran or its content or origin. I am a Muslim myself. I prefer to just state what I know and I believe to be true. It is up to those who hear you or read what you say to decide whether to believe or not. We do not convert people. They convert if they want. Keep your emotions under control no matter the insult, as it does not touch you or your religion, it only satisfies them.

  18. Hi,
Wow. What a coincidence. I was listening to an explanation of this chapter of the Quran and It answers very comprehensively. Here's the link for anyone interested in the other side of the story. http://podcast.bayyinah.com/category/juz_amma/

  19. For me reading the Qur'an Masad (in Arabic, don't worry) was a clear indication alright this was just written by a crazy vengeful human being (albeit of great rhetorical skill). There are phrases of great beauty about the oneness of the universe in Shinto books, for example, too, so the fact that the book contains nice phrases too doesn't help when you read something like Masad which clearly proves that it's just a guy, and a vengeful one at that. I can see who those raised in birth in the cult would have a hard time approaching it impartially.
